Our Origins
Very often, I am asked to explain the origins of the name for this company. Even more frequently asked is the question of why I began working in this field at all. This brief explanation will hopefully provide a bit of illumination.
Unlike most people working in a protective capacity, I was the shy, quiet child, the last picked for games, and the first to be picked on. The early years produced countless beatings and bruises, with no help from anyone else.
As I grew into young adulthood, I decided that if I were ever in the position to protect others, I would. If there were ever some way to care for the people that had experiences similar to myself, or were in any way unable to defend themselves, protect themselves, or even speak for themselves, then I would do exactly that.
In 1993, when I began in this field, my role would shape itself countless times as the one that I had waited for so many times. This brought me into an endless array of situations, situations where the most necessary skills were not overtly forceful or physical, but more soulful and empathetic, compassionate and resilient. Within these extraordinary moments, the seeds for Prodigal took root.
5 years ago, I began writing a fictional novel, which although based on elements of my life and rife with a vivid realism, was still fiction. As it neared completion, the novel was still unnamed. Then, about the same time, my career in security took a decidedly entrepreneurial turn. The idea was born to start my own team, based on the rule that everyone we were taking responsibility to protect and safeguard would in fact always return home safe and sound. Two words repeated over and over: “Safe” and “Return”. “Prodigal” was the result.
Today, Prodigal Private Security exists in its most expanded and dynamic form to date, with now over 40 members, each of whom operate under the strongest conviction to what I once envisioned.
